'Acoustic Night' at All Things Art on a "trial basis"

by Blake Cooper

The memo sitting on the desk at All Things Art For All People in Canandaigua, NY is simple. It reads, "February 5th is reserved for Acoustic Night. This is a trial run. The conditions are simple: no bands."

After a several years lapse in open mic night, the management of All Things Art have decided to start up somewhat of an alternative. It will likely feature a similar set up as the open mic nights, allowing performers to come in, sign up, and play without any prior notice. Only this time, the music will be all acoustic.

What does this mean? At the time nothing is final, but many idaes have been thrown around, including a very literal version in which no instruments may be plugged in. However, it will most likely mean that only acoustic instruments will be encouraged (acoustic guitars, piano, etc.). According to sources, microphones will probably be allowed.

In addition to the open mic environment, a few local artists known for using acoustic instrumentation have been notified and asked to perform. No word yet as to which artists have been invited or which will decide to perform.

Everyone is encouraged to come to the first of what may be many acoustic nights at All Things Art, on February 5th, 2005.
