NYS&W Shops are located in Utica. NYS&W is a regional railroad, whose lines stretch from New Jersey to Utica and Syracuse. NYSW is known for unique heritage and motive power. It one of a few regional railroads to own modern locomotives. The shops are based at the former Erie-Lackawanna freight warehouse. The shop is recent noted for overhauling locomotives for the Providence and Worchester Railroad in Rhode Island. Note to the wise, the neighborhood is a little interesting. (it is located in "the hood") This is the reason the picture are taken from the other side of the CSX mainline.

The series of photos include NYSW's small, but impressive fleet of big GE B40-8's, nesting at the Utica Shops awaiting service. This a such a rare treat, all three NYSW B40-8's in one spot. Originally, purchase with CSX backing for intermodal service. Once numbering 20 units, in 1999 only 3 remain. Shortly after I updated this page, NYSW started to clean up the yard. The GE's are gone to the P&W in Rhode Island. The F45 and other miscellaneous cars were scrapped on site. In there place are other locomotives and cars under contract repairs.
